Response to Marc Halévy on Transhumanism

Dear Sir,
I have read your somewhat insulting note about my essay “Transhumanism: The Terminal Stage of Capitalism” published in 2022.
I would like to raise four points in response.
First, the next time you review one of my works, I kindly ask that you at least read the first ten pages beforehand to avoid misrepresenting its content. I have the unfortunate impression that you relied solely on the back cover blurb, a simple copy-paste of which constitutes about half of your article. I won’t insult you by assuming you’re simply a fool, so your complete misunderstanding of my argument suggests, at the very least, a very inattentive reading of these lines.
Second, I deny you the right to associate me with any so-called “bobo” milieu. I started working at the age of 17 and held jobs that you would likely consider, based on your writings, beneath or irrelevant, before educating myself in art and critical thinking as an autodidact, and later practicing sociology outside the university system.
I doubt that, like me, you’ve ever risked a professional opportunity because of the ideas you publicly express. Personally, I’ve lost exhibitions, financial support, and recently a distributor. I’ve faced censorship because of minority political positions in the cultural sphere, which I’ve maintained without ever lowering my gaze. Try, for example, calling for a vote for the RN or defending the Yellow Vests in that famous “bobo” circle, and you’ll see. When you, like me, have the entire Islamo-leftist scum coming after you, we’ll see how you handle it—probably very poorly, in my opinion.
I would willingly accept being called bourgeois, insofar as, like you, I now live in relatively comfortable material conditions. However, after minimal research on you, the term “bobo” seems far more congruent with the environment in which you operate than with my lifestyle or immediate social circle.
Third, capitalism is not an ideology (like socialism or liberalism) but a system of production, from which consumerism (alienation through commodities) and financialization (the subjugation of the productive economy to a regime of speculation—not "financialism," which is meaningless) stem. This has nothing to do with what you describe as “the praise of private entrepreneurship.” I have no idea where you got this absurd definition, but it seems more like the opinion of a half-drunk barfly than of a rigorous and legitimate intellectual you claim to be.
Finally, if you had read my book, you might hesitate before making such a bold and completely unsubstantiated statement:
“Regarding the substance of the argument, it obviously doesn’t hold up because technological, algorithmic, or digital artifacts are human creations where human intelligence and knowledge will forever remain indispensable.”
My book calmly demonstrates the opposite with factual and documented evidence over roughly a hundred pages.
And above all, you might feel a bit of self-disgust before producing a paragraph as repugnantly obscene as this:
“However, what is true is that these artifacts will, without remorse, replace mediocre, incapable, or lazy humans... That is the only real socio-political problem, but with or without transhumanism, it already exists today with the rapid automation and algorithmization of millions of tasks once performed by humans.”
I am delighted to learn that, in your view, the millions of workers, employees, and manual laborers who, over recent decades, have suffered the great replacement of humans by machines were mediocre, incapable, and lazy beings—surplus individuals whom you mercilessly consign to the scrapheap.
Know this: had you read my book (you would clearly benefit greatly from it!), you would have learned that the ongoing digital revolution will not primarily affect our productive forces but rather the overqualified halfwits, the intellectual professions that create no wealth, the exhausted fake elites—in short, it will ruthlessly destroy poor fools of your ilk.
Best regards,
Nicolas Le Bault
